Cerec: Same-day Dental Crowns

There is never a good time to lose or seriously damage a tooth. Either one of these two scenarios can cause quite the shock and disrupt daily life. We have seen it first hand in many of our patients. Thankfully, we have also had the luxury of being able to restore many smiles with dental implants and crowns.

Many of our patients have been satisfied with undergoing the lengthy procedure that is required for dental crowns to be made. There have also been many others who required immediate assistance with bringing their smiles back to life. If you are the latter, you will be happy to know that our team is able to provide same-day dental crowns with our CEREC machine!

What are CEREC Crowns?

There are several materials that can be used to create crowns. Some of these materials include: metal, ceramic, resin, and porcelain. In most circumstances, crowns take roughly two weeks to create. However, technology has come a long way and the CEREC machine has sped up the process of dental crown creation.CEREC, short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is a machine that produces crowns from a very strong ceramic. The technology used to design, create, and install these crowns has the capability of doing so within the same day.

Advantages of CEREC – Same-Day Crowns

There are several benefits to going the CEREC way when it comes to dental crowns. You can find these benefits below.

Same-Day Procedure

CEREC has provided the dental industry with a same-day solution for crowns. Our patients can now have a new crown without having to visit our office multiple times. This is understandably a major benefit considering that there won’t need to be extra days to take off from work or school.

No Need For Temporary Crowns

Traditional dental crowns take roughly two weeks to be created. This means that a temporary crown is provided to the patient while the permanent one is being made. This temporary crown acts as a protector for the tooth during the waiting period. Seeing as CEREC crowns are made within the same day, there is no need for these temporary crowns

No Messy Dental Impressions

The CEREC crowns require a digital impression of the mouth rather than the original dental plaster one. The traditional method for capturing the alignment and shape of the teeth is messy, bulky, and often uncomfortable. CEREC completely removes this which is a bonus point for most of our patients.

Long-Lasting

One of the main questions we get about CEREC crowns is with regards to their durability. It is not uncommon for patients to assume that these crowns are less durable than their traditional counterparts seeing as they are made much faster. The truth is that CEREC crowns are incredibly durable. In fact, they are as durable as any traditional crown.

Appearance

It is nearly impossible to tell when a patient has a CEREC crown. Its appearance is natural and smooth. Most patients will find that CEREC crowns blend in perfectly with the rest of their teeth.

There is a lot to consider when selecting the right crown for your smile. We hope that the above points serve as a starting point for your decision making. We understand that you might have other questions or concerns with regards to dental crowns. Our team would love to answer those for you and help you select the best option for your specific situation. We encourage you to bring up your questions during your next visit!
